Position

Partner advising employers and trustees on all aspects of pensions law. Since joining Sackers in 2000, she has built up a reputation for providing practical and commercial advice, particularly with regard to complex and technical legal queries.

As head of the firm’s Defined Contribution team, Helen has a particular interest in DC schemes and DC policy developments. She also has a thriving DB scheme practice and has been involved with some of the firm’s largest clients for many years.

The group's contentious work includes representing the trustees of the HSBC Bank UK Pension Scheme in multiple member complaints and acting for the trustees of the Carillion Pension Scheme in the inquiry and regulator investigation relating to anti-avoidance powers regarding the company's insolvency. Non-contentious highlights include advising the trustees of the Express Pension Scheme and the Arla Foods Pension Scheme on the scheme merger which used an asset-backed contribution structure to equalise funding levels, assisting EDS Trustee with the spin-off of the enterprise services division from Hewlett Packard Enterprises to DXC, and acting for Meredith on the pensions aspects of its $2.8bn offer for Time. The National Grid Pension Scheme, Royal Mail Pension Plan and the TfL Pension Fund are also clients. Ralph McClelland, Lucy Dunbar and Jacqui Reid all made partner in 2018.

    In recent years, the country ŐĀs the government has been committed to improving Taxation in Nicaragua and attempting to follow the legislative model used by some of the other countries in the region. Starting January 1st, 2013, a new tax law (Law No. 822, Tax Concertation Law) came into force in and completely changed the taxation system in Nicaragua.
