Personal Injury

Position

Will is a senior associate in our serious personal injury team in London with specific expertise in brain and spinal cord injuries, and the bereaved families of those who have been fatally injured.

Will leads a team specialising in claims arising from road traffic accidents and is not afraid to take on the most challenging of cases. Over the years he has secured a great many substantial settlements in complex, often split-liability road traffic accident claims.

Having represented a wide range of clients who have sustained life-changing injuries, Will is well attuned to the profound impact that such injuries have on his clients and their families. How the legal process can support his clients in the important process of rehabilitation is always at the forefront of his mind and facilitating rehabilitation is a core objective of his work.

As well as representing his clients, Will has been instrumental in organising and ensuring the delivery of legal training within the London office of the firm. He has co-authored a number of training seminars and workshops for serious injury lawyers and has delivered training externally on subjects such as the role of the personal injury lawyer; road traffic accident reconstruction; and the interplay between the litigation process and rehabilitation.

Career

Will began his legal career in 2008, joined Fentons Solicitors in 2012 and Slater and Gordon in 2013.

Memberships

Will is a senior litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). He has formerly volunteered for the AvMA helpline, been secretary of the Headway London Regional Group and organised fundraising events for Headway. He represents the firm as member of the RoadPeace legal panel.

Lawyer Rankings

London > Insurance > Personal injury: claimant

The personal injury offering at Slater and Gordon is led by head of serious injury in the South, Tracey Benson, who is described by one client as ‘an excellent solicitor and a huge asset to the firm’. The firm has five London serious injury teams, which cover road traffic accidents, including complex new issues such as automated braking in cars; secondary victim claims; public liability; employers’ liability; and product liability. There is a clear focus on catastrophic injury in the team, which is ‘bright and industrious’ principal lawyer Will Cornwell ‘s area of expertise; its cases are often of significant value, frequently involving such issues as orthopaedic injury and amputation, severe traumatic brain injury and gastroenterological injury, as well as psychiatric injury elements.
