Career

Joseph joined Roythornes in 2019 and is based at our Alconbury office. He gained a first-class law degree from the Open University and achieved a distinction for his Legal Practice Course from the University of Law. He is currently working towards membership of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

As a solicitor in the Private Client team, he specialises in advising on and preparing wills, trusts and lasting powers of attorney. He has considerable experience in dealing with all aspects of estate administration and obtaining grants of probate; he also provides lifetime and testamentary tax planning advice, including Inheritance Tax (IHT).

Joseph has acted for a broad range of clients and finds it particularly beneficial to get to know them, their family and any associated businesses to ensure that the advice is properly tailored to the circumstances, both now and with one eye on the future. He promotes effective planning across generations to better protect both the family and its wealth, and to further mitigate the tax that could otherwise arise.

Joseph has a particularly good grasp of the new Residential Nil Rate Band IHT allowance, for which the majority of individuals can qualify in order to significantly reduce their potential IHT liability. There are, however, numerous barriers to overcome and circumstances in which the allowance (or part of it) can be lost. Joseph can help navigate these difficulties so as to maximise the amount that may be sheltered from IHT.

Joseph Stoehr – Roythornes Solicitors

Roythornes Solicitors hired Tim Galloway from Birketts LLP in March 2022 to lead its private client practice from its Alconbury office, which works with offices across the East Midlands to advise on numerous high-value estates. Galloway frequently assists with estates with assets in excess of £10m. The team is noted as being ‘private and discreet‘ and as providing ‘first-class’ advice. Senior associate Ayesha Brown ‘always makes every effort to understand the needs of the client’, whilst associate Joseph Stoehr is described as ‘dynamic, yet thoughtful and mature’.
