Position

Alistair is the Managing Partner of the Leeds office and a Partner in the Healthcare team. He is a highly accomplished practitioner and advocate, representing healthcare professionals on regulatory, disciplinary, coronial and criminal proceedings, investigations and prosecutions. He is frequently instructed by the major medical defence organisations (MDOs) and individual healthcare professionals. Alistair advises on a wide range of medico-legal matters and is an experienced advocate, having appeared before interim orders hearings at the MPTS, fitness to practise investigations and hearings at the General Medical Council (GMC) and General Dental Council (GDC), coroner’s inquests, trust disciplinary investigations at MHPS hearings, senior court hearings, first tier tribunal hearings and Performers List investigations. Alistair obtained Higher Rights of Audience to represent clients in all courts in 2005. Alistair is also experienced in police station attendances, having gained accreditation in 2003.

Major organisations represented by the group include the MDDUS, Dental Protection and Medical Protection. Managing partner of the Leeds office Alistair Hewitt has broad experience defending clients in high profile and high value work, and heads up the practice which also includes Anne Green  and Simon Kernyckyj . The practice recently acted for a client in fitness to practice investigations brought by the General Medical Council (GMC) and a resulting discrimination claim against the GMC.
