Position

Nigel is a Partner and heads the commercial litigation department. He has a niche practice specialising in defence work for solicitors facing disciplinary proceedings. He advises solicitors and legal practices on the disciplinary process from SRA investigations to Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal proceedings and appeals. Nigel’s work includes: successfully defending a solicitor facing a money laundering complaint in the SDT; appealing a strike off for dishonesty and obtaining the SRA’s consent to a High Court order quashing the SDT’s decision and directing a re-hearing; acting for a solicitor facing SDT proceedings for transactions allegedly bearing hallmarks of mortgage fraud and negotiating the withdrawal of proceedings through a Regulatory Settlement Agreement; appealing an SRA intervention and obtaining a consent order withdrawing the intervention resolution; obtaining the reversal of an Adjudicator’s Decision severely reprimanding a solicitor for breach of confidentiality.

Career

Nigel is a co-author of the Law Society’s book on 'The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal – law and practice'. He is a contributing editor to the solicitors’ regulation section of Cordery on Legal Services, and the cases editor for The Law Society’s Legal Compliance Bulletin.

Member

Nigel is a committee member of the Solicitors' Assistance Scheme and a member of The Law Society’s Regulatory Processes Committee. He sits as a Defence Representative on the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Users Group. He is also a member of the London Solicitors Litigation Association and the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers.
