Position

Partner of Lax & Co LLP. Robert, together with Mike Lax has been heavily involved in the long running case of  Fiona Trust & Holding Corporation & Others v Privalov & Others  since  2006, most recently in relation to their clients’ successful claim for damages under a cross undertaking for damages on a freezing order which was upheld by the Court of Appeal.   Apart from his long involvement in this marathon case and the related case of NOUK UK & Others v Mikhaylyuk & Others, he also acts for clients in relation to a variety of shipping and non shipping disputes in the High Court and Court of Appeal as well as in arbitration.

    In recent years, the country ŐĀs the government has been committed to improving Taxation in Nicaragua and attempting to follow the legislative model used by some of the other countries in the region. Starting January 1st, 2013, a new tax law (Law No. 822, Tax Concertation Law) came into force in and completely changed the taxation system in Nicaragua. Two years later a new law was issued by the National Assembly containing more than 80 amendments, additions and repeals (Law No 891) which came into force December 18th, 2014.
