As an alcohol licensing solicitor with over 8 years’ experience, Steve can help solve any licensing issue that a business may be facing. From obtaining new premises licenses and variations through to challenging reviews and appearing at licensing hearings.
Everything Steve suggests is not just based on knowledge of licensing laws. It is also based upon his first-hand experience of how the various licensing authorities and police forces like to work. Or to put it another way, he knows what they like, what they don’t like and what actions will likely get the results you want.
Steve tends to help small to medium sized pubs, restaurants and retail operators. And by small-to-medium, this means operators running from one to around twenty sites. He is also known to passionately protect those who operate many sites.
And as a result of working with business owners – many of whom are risking their own money – Steve has developed a very realistic approach to costs, including the most practical options to take.
So no matter how many licensed premises an operator is running or what type of operations they have, Steve can help them solve any licensing problem that they are facing.
Common alcohol licensing items Steve can help with:
• Obtaining and varying premises licenses
• Obtaining pavement licenses
• Defending premises licence reviews
• Interviews under caution
• Obtaining a sexual entertainment venue licence
• Defending prosecutions
• Advising on licensing terms in leases/contracts
• Drafting policies
“Steve has been first class in respect of the speed at which he acts on things, along with the quality of the responses that come back. Based on Steve’s service, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Poppleston Allen.”
Steve gained his LLB from De Montfort University, Leicester, in 2010, qualifying as a solicitor on 2011.
Boutique firm Poppleston Allen, which is based in Nottingham, counts many of London’s leading restaurants, bars, hotels, private members clubs and outdoor events among its clients. The team handles the full gamut of licensing work, including obtaining new premises licences, varying existing premises licences to increase trading hours and capacity, and advising on increases in trading areas. The team is jointly headed by Lisa Inzani and Clare Eames, the latter of whom has extensive experience in assisting following allegations of breach of licensing conditions, police closures, and other enforcement action. Another key team member is associate Steve Burnett, whose regular workload includes challenging judicial reviews and appearing at licensing hearings, largely on behalf of privately owned pub, restaurant and nightclub operators.
