Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP’s Layne Kruse (who divides his time between Houston and Washington DC) has a wealth of experience in courts across the US in jury trials and class actions, among other matters. Kruse’s team provides ‘highly prized advice’ to clients from a wide range of sectors, such as healthcare, finance, oil and gas, and insurance. Robin Adelstein in New York is particularly knowledgeable in antitrust issues in the life sciences sector. Kruse, David Foster (Washington DC), Jonathan Franklin (Washington DC) and others are acting for Robert Bosch Tool Corp and its German parent company at the Fourth Circuit in relation to a claim brought by SawStop that the client was part of a conspiracy to boycott SawStop’s patented safety technology for table saws. The firm is also defending Phillips 66 in a class action filed by Persian Gulf regarding an alleged gasoline price-fixing conspiracy among several major energy companies.

In 2017, Daniel Wellington obtained unconditional FTC clearance on behalf of Good Shepherd Health System in relation to its acquisition by CHRISTUS Health. Wellington also assisted Gemalto with the antitrust aspects of its $850m acquisition of 3M’s identity management business. David Foster is another key figure. Layne Kruse, whose time is split between Houston and Washington DC, heads up the US antitrust practice. Wellington and Foster are based full time in Washington DC. Neely Agin joined Winston & Strawn LLP.

The combined firm has a long history of litigation and trial work and continues to be retained by clients in high-stakes disputes. Energy, sports, technology, and healthcare and life sciences are among the firm’s sweet spots. A team of Houston litigators led by Layne Kruse obtained summary judgment for client Robert Bosch Tool Corporation in an antitrust conspiracy case. From the Dallas office, Richard Krumholz and Beau Cox - who was made partner in 2018 - have been representing Freeman Resources in long-running litigation concerning a 2008 transaction with Chesapeake. Among the firm’s best known litigators are Austin-based M Scott Incerto as well as Thomas McCormack and Thomas Hall in New York.
