Nelsons is a leading law firm with offices in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham.

They provide support and advice to businesses, individuals and families with their legal and investment needs. Recognised by independently researched publications, Nelsons features in The Lawyer’s UK 200 Annual Report of the UK’s largest 200 law firms.

This rapidly expanding East Midlands firm provides specialists in nearly every aspect of commercial and personal law as well as market-leading online services. Expertise includes corporate and employment law, dispute resolution, personal injury, private client work, real estate and family law.

The firm: Nelsons was formed in 1983 as an independent partnership with Tim Hastings and two other solicitors in a small Nottingham office. In June 2017, Nelsons’ succession plan was announced which saw Partner Stewart Vandermark become Chief Executive. Tim Hastings, who had been Chief Executive since 2003, became Chairman and remains a member of the board, working alongside Stewart.

The practice has expanded successfully to become one of the leading law firms in the region, and now employs just under 200 people across the East Midlands. Its growth has been largely the result of strategic mergers and acquisitions. In 1999 and 2000 it expanded into Derby and Leicester and in just 18 months acquired seven smaller firms. The firm’s latest acquisition in April 2015 was the historic Derby firm Moody and Woolley.

Nelsons is embedded in the communities of the East Midlands as a provider of dependable and expert legal advice, delivered in an efficient and straightforward manner and tailored to the needs of each client. Its individual solicitors, well respected and professional, are its brightest assets. The firm is able to attract the best talent through its commitment to being an excellent employer.

Nelsons’ specialist experience and the depth of its resources enable it to offer services to other solicitors through Fusion Legal, a referrals and support network for law firms. The practice is accredited by Lexcel, which confirms the commitment of everyone at Nelsons to providing clients with the superior service which they are entitled to expect.
