Career

David solves problems mainly for corporate clients, but also carries out work for some private individuals. This workload is divided between getting clients out of difficult situations and preventing clients getting into difficult situations.

David’s experience in different fields enables him to provide solutions for clients that are rounded and commercially focused. His primary concern is always to deliver value to his clients and advice that is easy to understand and action.

He is a specialist litigator advising clients in relation to high value High Court/Court of Appeal disputes and has dealt with a number of international/cross-border matters. However, the experience he has gained from advising on cases that have turned into a dispute is valued by clients who need advice about how to avoid them.

A good deal of David’s work is in relation to contracts, companies, partnerships and negligence – but he also advises in relation to contentious probate matters. He most enjoys handling complex cases with multiple issues requiring excellent legal knowledge and the ability to produce creative solutions.

David is also a solicitor advocate and he regularly appears in High Court cases against barristers.

Key highlights included representing two directors of a group of food companies in a professional negligence claim against the companies‚Äô former solicitors, and representing two Florida-based banks in the collection of mortgage shortfalls from British citizens who invested in the US property market. David Harries¬†handles energy, engineering, construction and IT disputes, and is also noted for land and fiduciary obligations work. Also recommended are¬†John Devoy, who¬†is experienced in professional negligence cases, David Potts, who¬†is noted for shareholder disputes, and David Mann, who was promoted to partner in 2017 and has ‚Äėan excellent listening ear‚Äô. Wallace specialises in the resolution of disputes involving wills, trusts and estates. He has particular expertise in dealing with challenges to wills, often on the grounds of lack of testamentary capacity, undue influence or fraud. He also represents individuals and estates in relation to claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975.

  • THE VAT E-COMMERCE PACKAGE

    A. INTRODUCTION   The VAT E-commerce Package adopted by the Council on the 5th of December 2017 includes several changes that will be gradually implemented, some changes will be effective as from the 1st of January 2019 and the rest as from the 1st of January 2021.
  • Doing business in Ukraine: turning point for the currency control in Ukraine

    One of the most hotly discussed topics in 2019 is currency control liberalization in Ukraine.The currency control liberalization was one of Ukraine‚Äôs priorities under the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. At the beginning of 2019 the National Bank of Ukraine (hereinafter the ‚ÄúNBU‚ÄĚ) approved and promulgated all long-awaited regulations, serving as the basis for a new liberal¬†system of foreign currency control. The new¬†currency control¬†system will be launched on 7 February 2019, the same day as the Law of Ukraine¬† On Currency and Exchange Transactions¬† becomes applicable. The changes are aimed at deregulation, facilitating cross-border transactions with foreign currency and expanding the list of available foreign currency transactions.
  • New Long Term Residency Visas

    After much media coverage, Cabinet Decision 56 of 2018 (the Decision ) has been gazetted which introduces new long term residency visas to, amongst others, four categories of persons in the UAE. 
  • Significant Changes to Civil Procedure Code

    Significant changes to Federal Law No 11 of 1992 (the Civil Procedure Code ) will soon be coming into effect. These changes are introduced through regulations (the Regulations ) issued under the Civil Procedure Code and will come into effect on 16 February 2019.
  • Merger Clearance Matters

    The United Arab Emirates (the UAE ) promulgated legislation to specifically address the regulation of competition (being Federal Law 4 of 2012, or the Competition Law ) several years ago but until recently, it has been the case that the requisite implementing regulations and processes were not in place. This is no longer the case. Not only have the much anticipated implementing regulations been issued, the UAE Ministry of Economy (the Ministry ) (being the regulator in charge of administering the UAE competition regime) has now formed the required committee and issued the anticipated guidance and forms to allow concerned parties to make merger clearance submissions to the Ministry where required to do so pursuant to the Competition Law.
