Austria

The firm: Based in Vienna, Strasser Haindl Meyer provides national and international clients with support in all areas of business and corporate life. The firm’s areas of expertise are corporate, dispute resolution, real estate and insurance law.

In real estate and construction matters, Strasser Haindl Meyer offers both companies and entrepreneurs, as well as private clients, accurate and efficient support in the implementation of their projects. The firm provides comprehensive advice to clients, especially in complex transactions. Strasser Haindl Meyer advises on construction projects and in real estate and construction disputes.

In dispute resolution and insurance law, Strasser Haindl Meyer is Austria’s first address for national and international insurers. Our experts are known for their comprehensive knowledge of the market and their forward-looking advice. In addition to insurance litigation, the highly sought-after insurance practice covers the entire spectrum of related services, including regulatory law, underwriting and product development.

Main areas of practice
Real estate and construction:
(1 partner, 1 lawyer, 2 associates)
Strasser Haindl Meyer offers comprehensive legal advice on all aspects of this key competence: real estate. The team of real estate specialists, with their broad experience, are ready to advise on all aspects of real estate law, e.g. real estate transactions (share or asset deals, forward purchases, forward funding etc), real estate development, tenancy law or real estate-related disputes.

Our focus is always on the clients and their interests and objectives – and how we can achieve them together. We take care of legal concerns and partner you through the full duration of your (future) real estate investment as well as your exit.

Insurance: (2 partners, 1 lawyer, 5 associates)
Strasser Haindl Meyer is a full-service provider and partner to the insurance industry for all aspects of insurance contract law and insurance supervisory law. Both national and international insurance companies benefit from the niche competences: from designing products for the various insurance sectors and drafting specific and contractual terms (general insurance terms, wording), to the evaluation of questions of liability and coverage, representing insured in liability disputes (at the request of the insurer) and mounting a defence as part of coverage disputes. Strasser Haindl Meyer boasts an outstanding core competence in claims monitoring for large insurance claims.

Strasser Haindl Meyer supports its clients extrajudicial and before courts or authorities. We are also counselling in arbitration and mediation proceedings. In this context, Strasser Haindl Meyer acts both as a monitoring or coverage counsel as well as defence counsel appointed by the insurer.

Strasser Haindl Meyer regularly advises clients from the insurance sector on questions of supervisory law and how to comply with regulatory requirements. This could be the case when breaking into new markets and business areas, or if changes are made to the Austrian or European legal frameworks – as was recently the case with the EU Insurance Distribution Directive (EU) 2016/97 (“IDD”).

Clients also leverage the know-how in relation to the supervision of the insurance industry by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA). It is important to keep the regulatory framework in mind when designing products and distribution channels – and Strasser Haindl Meyer has the industry-specific knowledge the client need.

Corporate and M&A: (2 partners, 1 lawyer)
Strasser Haindl Meyer is your trusted partner in all phases of the company lifecycle and provides clients with forward-looking and legally watertight solutions. The range of advice which Strasser Haindl Meyer can give takes in consulting on (and the implementation of) basic strategic decisions, as well as comprehensive management of your day-to-day business operations.

Strasser Haindl Meyer has years of experience in establishing and acquiring companies, group restructurings, company disposals and corporate conversions. Strasser Haindl Meyer can also advise and help clients with daily business operations, the implementation of corporate standards (corporate housekeeping) and with the negotiation of agreements with suppliers, customers and distribution partners.

Dispute resolution: (2 partners, 1 lawyer, 4 associates)
Professional management and strategic foresight are particularly important in situations of conflict. This is where the dispute management from Strasser Haindl Meyer’s expertise seamlessly connects to our clients’ conflict management. Strasser Haindl Meyer manages this interface by conducting a thorough initial analysis of the substantive and procedural risks for the client’s legal standpoint and interests. Clients from the insurance, banking and financial services industries, manufacturing industries and from small- and medium-sized companies also very much appreciate the ongoing procedural risk- and cost/benefit-analyses which Strasser Haindl Meyer conduct parallel to the dispute.

Strasser Haindl Meyer provides advice to and represents clients in all industries, for example in shareholder disputes, post-M&A litigation and on all day-to-day questions of liability under corporate law, IP litigation, D&O matters and mass proceedings.

High quality advice requires focus. And talented individuals working seamlessly as a team.

At Strasser Haindl Meyer, we focus on quality and forward-thinking service. The mandates our clients entrust us with are often complex, and never identical in substance. Diversity and team spirit is key to good service. This is amplified by team members’ individual strength.

While our firm’s lawyers share the same values, principles and work ethics, they do have different cultural as well as professional backgrounds and fields of interests. This enables us to handle each case with the necessary focus, expertise and dedication. In order to safeguard and continuously advance these key factors for high service levels, Strasser Haindl Meyer makes a conscious effort to create a positive, inspiring working environment and making sure that every employee knows what he or she is – a valued member of our team.
