This includes inquests, judicial reviews, Mental Health Act advice, Mental Capacity Act advice, support and training around investigations, risk management, duty of candour, NHS Continuing Healthcare and consultation issues. Has also handled clinical negligence claims particularly complex, sensitive and high-value matters.

Recently the team acted for a Midlands CCG where a relevant person challenged a deprivation of liberty that the patient was subject to. The firm was able to appear quickly and demonstrate to the judge that all was in order, that the care package was appropriate and that the correct procedure was being followed.

Julian Smith  and Duncan Astill advised US-based investors the Nashville Healthcare Council and Tenet Healthcare on entry into the UK healthcare market through joint ventures and acquisitions. The ‘impressive ’ Jill Mason  heads the health care and mental health group and recently acted for a South East CCG in designing a home care package for a patient with complex requirements, as well as for a charity care home in Court of Protection proceedings. Commercial specialist Kevin Calder  continues to work with the Department of Health on high-value commercial projects. Peter Wainman is advising Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust on procurement of two new interconnecting IT systems. Jill Weston and Sarah Garrood ‘have years of experience and are highly recommended’ for mental health and regulatory work, and Stuart Knowles  is ‘very responsive and knowledgeable’ in clinical governance and inquests. Bridget Archibaldheads  the practice and is active on the development of new healthcare facilities. Commercial specialist Rhian Vandrill  advised Dudley CCG on its £4b contract on a Multispecialty Community Provider model. Employment expert Jog Hundle   recently defended a teaching hospital against allegations of race discrimination and victimisation by a consultant employee. He also advised 2gether NHS Foundation Trust on its merger with Gloucestershire Care Services, including on the transfer of its staff. Martin Brewer  is also experienced in employment matters. Also recommended are mental health specialist Jill Mason  and corporate specialist Julian Smith  , who recently assisted Elysium Healthcare with its acquisition of Broadham Care. Consultant Stuart Knowles  works on inquests and investigations and recently conducted inquests on two deaths at Rampton Hospital. He also advised four NHS and Foundation Trusts together on a patient sharing information agreement on their IT systems.
