Corporate and commercial: MKB Law’s corporate and commercial division is one of the leading teams within Northern Ireland. Their multidisciplinary solicitors work with clients to understand their businesses, management strategies and most importantly their challenges, and will work collaboratively to provide seamless pragmatic advice and solutions. They undertake complex and high-value work across many sectors. Areas of expertise include: mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity, commercial contracts, restructuring and insolvency, shareholder agreements, franchising agreements, corporate governance, succession planning, reorganisations and demergers, regulatory compliance, intellectual property and energy and renewables.

Commercial property: With one of the strongest commercial real estate teams in Belfast, MKB Law acts in the development, sale, purchase, letting and finance of all types of commercial real estate. The team also provides advice on all legal aspects of property management. They have provided legal representation for all types of commercial schemes including numerous retail developments, hotels, factories, office blocks, retail, warehousing and distribution and multi-use schemes. The team also offers legal solutions to some of the largest property developers and construction companies in Northern Ireland for housing development and unit sales, as well as providing ongoing assistance to smaller bespoke builders.

Insolvency: The corporate and insolvency teams at MKB Law work together to provide clients with specialist advice. Much of their experience was built up in the aftermath of the Great Financial Crisis of 2007-2008 when they brought many clients through extremely challenging times. They continue to develop their practice in this complex and challenging area with a particular emphasis on asset protection. They also have a wide network of contacts with lenders, investors, and insolvency practitioners.

Dispute resolution and litigation: MKB Law acts for clients in a wide range of complex commercial disputes for businesses, their experience earned over many years spans most commercial sectors. Areas of focus: breaches of contract, shareholder and director disputes, partnership disputes, commercial contracts disputes, intellectual property infringement, construction and building disputes, land and property, banking claims, professional negligence and judicial review.

Banking and finance: MKB Law has a depth of experience within the banking, private equity and finance sector and will provide advice on appropriate funding structures, finance and security documents, including Loan Market Association (LMA) style documents. The team has many years of experience acting for borrowers and lenders (both private and corporate).

Employment: The expert employment law team at MKB Law specialises in complex and high-value employment matters for both employers and employees. The team has particular expertise acting for executives and senior employees, specifically in reviewing post-termination restrictions, brokering exits and severance packages, and negotiating bonus settlements or disputes. The team further provides strategic assistance to our corporate division in relation to restructuring, mergers, and TUPE relating to company acquisitions and disposals with an insolvency angle.

Family and matrimonial: MKB Law’s family and matrimonial department is one of the leading family law practices in Northern Ireland. The team has particular expertise acting for business owners, directors and professionals affected by complex matrimonial matters. The department is recognised for its matrimonial finance work involving sophisticated property, corporate and pension aspects. The department also has strong expertise in dealing with cases in multiple jurisdictions, both within the UK and internationally.

Conveyancing: MKB Law’s residential property department is regarded as one of the top conveyancing practices in Northern Ireland. This specialist team has an excellent reputation in the delivery of conveyancing and residential property services, providing a highly efficient and personal approach throughout the process.
