Court of Protection

Jay is an experienced solicitor who specialises in working as a Court of Protection Deputy and as a Trustee for clients with Personal Injury Trusts.

I qualified as a solicitor over 30 years ago and specialised in personal injury work. Following a career break to spend time with my children whilst they were young, I worked for 7 years providing specialist legal advice and support for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN).

I joined Barratts Solicitors in 2018 and was appointed Head of the Court of Protection Department in 2020 and Partner in 2021.

My work in the Court of Protection department involves helping clients who lack the capacity to manage their own financial affairs, primarily as a result of personal injuries sustained in an accident or clinical negligence. This frequently involves managing multi million pound property and investment portfolios and I collaborate with other professionals to get the best advice for clients.

The Deputy work is extremely satisfying as I am involved in practical help and support for clients who lack capacity. It is vital to help clients to have as much independence and say in their lives as possible. By working closely with them and a team of experts, the client can make choices in a safe environment and maximise their quality of life.
