Chile > Dispute resolution: white-collar crime Tier 3

Founded in 2017, young law firm Lembeye Abogados was joined in January 2020 by the 'very competentDaniel Praetorius (formerly co-head of Bofill Escobar Silva Abogados' white-collar department) as partner and head of the firm's new dispute resolution and criminal law practice. Notwithstanding the department's nascency, the 'very personalised practice' has already acted for individuals and companies in several significant criminal cases, including defending Itelecom in a high-profile criminal investigation into alleged bribery in bidding proceedings.

Practice head(s):

Daniel Praetorius

The lawyers here have created a very personalised practice, in which they personally attend to their clients.

I have called on weekends and after hours; and even when my attorney was on vacation, he did not fail to answer my call and take care of the problem. This is extremely unusual, some partners don’t even give out their cell phone numbers, they just provide the associates’ information.

Daniel Praetorius has always been keenly aware of what is going on, our needs and priorities. Daniel cares and does the work.

Daniel Praetorius is a very competent lawyer, with a lot of experience and good academic training; without a doubt, this means the firm can take on professional challenges with the conviction that they will be in the hands of an expert lawyer.

Energy and natural resources > Mining Tier 3

In April 2020, Lembeye Abogados ('very responsive and knowledgeable about mining and resources') hired Rony Zimerman ('goes above and beyond') from Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana (where he was a partner for 15 years) to lead its six-strong natural resources and mining practice. Dual-qualified (Canada/Chile), Zimerman advises multinationals on their investments in natural resources, along with assisting Canadian mining companies with their operations in Chile. Most recently, his extensive experience includes advising Canada-listed Angold Resources on its acquisition of the Dorado concessions from Chilean entity, Compañía Minera Cerro el Diablo.

Practice head(s):

Rony Zimerman

Very responsive and knowledgeable about mining and resources.

Provided very good legal advice and work; they also helped us with practical matters in Chile, such as finding local geologists, connecting us to other industry players, and helping co-ordinate permits required for travel during Covid. Essentially they helped provide eyes and ears on the ground.

Their knowledge of the North American regulatory/legal environment helps them understand exactly what we need at the local level.

Up to speed with all the latest developments and always available whenever needed.

Rony Zimerman is legally qualified locally (as well as in Canada), and has worked in Canada and understands the global mining sector and multi-jurisdictional issues.

Rony Zimerman is very responsive and easy to communicate with, and assists us with a multitude of issues we run into (not being locally based). He goes above and beyond to make sure we have a local presence, and to help us solve problems (no matter how large or small).

Nicolas Espina assists entrepreneurs and start-ups throughout their entire growth stage, from the raising of seed capital to their internationalisation processes. Practice head(s):

Nicolas Espina; Jorge Lembeye

The team manages to provide a high quality of service for early stage startups, good collaboration and affordable cost for companies of our size.

Managed to serve us with a good understanding of the requirements of a startup, with a good sense of urgency, and they helped us overcome cultural and linguistic barriers.

The team is of excellent quality, with attention to detail, and communication is proactive.

Superior to other well-known firms for service and rates.

The experience of the partners gives them prestige; and they are more down-to-earth than firms that perhaps sell the brand more than the product itself.

Stands out for its service, how fast the lawyers work and the level of detail with which they analyse solutions.

The level of involvement of its partner lawyers is constant and it shows in the responses.

The quality of junior lawyers is also very good and they are quickly integrated into the culture of the firm.
