Position

Jane practises in crime, specialising in financial crime, predominantly but not exclusively, in London, the South East, and on the Western Circuit. She has a leading practice in complex prosecution and defence work.

Jane is regularly instructed in cases alleging conspiracies to defraud and to cheat the revenue, and in multi-million pound money laundering investigations. These are frequently complex prosecutions involving substantial financial evidence, the instruction of forensic accountants, and require expert evidence to be mastered. She is regularly involved in high value Proceeds of Crime Act proceedings to recover the proceeds of such offences. Jane receives frequent instructions to prosecute on behalf of the Specialist Fraud Division of the Crown Prosecution Service, and HMRC, and in particularly complex investigations is asked to advise pre-charge.

Jane also defends in multi million pound fraud and money laundering allegations and is particularly skilled in undermining prosecution inferences from financial evidence and cross examining expert witnesses. Her attention to detail is particularly apparent when presenting and challenging detailed banking evidence, or complex telephone and cell site evidence.

Jane is experienced in prosecuting and defending serious cases involving serial sex offences, serious violence including homicide, and offences arising from investigations into organised crime groups, including terrorsim. She is routinely instructed to represent those with learning difficulties and mental health issues and also young defendants charged with very serious offences. She regularly deals with cases that involve complex medical evidence and issues of causation.

Her recent instructions include a £17 million VAT fraud, allegations of laundering millions of pounds originating from alcohol duty evasion, complex boiler room frauds, and both prosecution and defending in cases alleging murder of, and serious injury to children.

Jane has a substantial appellate practice having appeared in the court of appeal in the recent past to argue points of law relating to conspiracy indictments, expert evidence and the legality of covert surveillance methods
