Position

Tyr’s Sport practice is led by partner Alistair McHenry who joined Tyr in 2022.  Alistair has extensive experience in all aspects of sports law with a particular focus on dispute resolution, contentious regulatory work and arbitrations. He has advised on a number of arbitrations at the very highest levels involving Premier League Clubs. He has acted for governing bodies, clubs, players, athletes and other sports professionals on a wide variety of issues.

Career

Alistair trained and qualified at Walker Morris where he spent a total of 15 years before joining Tyr in early 2022.

Memberships

Since 2018 Alistair has been an appointed Arbitrator and Mediator for Sport Resolutions, regularly taking appointments to arbitrate on complex disputes. Alistair is a Director on the Board of British Association for Sport and Law (BASL) and lectures on its Post Graduate course in Sports Law run by De Montford University. He is the author of the chapter on injuries of the leading textbook Football and the Law (edited by Nick de Marco QC) and is on the UK Editorial Board for Law in Sport.

Alistair McHenry  – Tyr

Established by Alistair McHenry after his departure from Walker Morris LLP in April 2022, the sports practice at Tyr focuses primarily on arbitration proceedings and regulatory matters. The firm acts for a variety of standout sporting clients, including Table Tennis England and the Welsh Rugby Union, in high-value contentious work spanning regulatory compliance, sports integrity and corporate disputes. The ‘excellent, highly experienced’ McHenry sits on a number of sports appeals and resolution panels, broadening the firm’s offering in the sports integrity space.
