Career
Soumya has over 19 years of experience in Real Estate, Infrastructure Law, General Corporate and Transaction Advisory, and Financing. He has been involved in many noteworthy transactions and has been advising a range of large Indian and multinational clients in various sectors including real estate, infrastructure, mining finance, banking, telecom, engineering, steel, cement, software information technology, retail, and services. Prior to AQUILAW, he was engaged with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Fox & Mandal, Hiland Group and Saha & Ray. He has completed his B.Sc. LL.B. from West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata and is enrolled with the Bar Council of West Bengal since 2005.
The following are some of the major highlights of his work experience:
Real Estate: Advised various Indian and multi-national corporates and banks such as Tata Housing Development Co. Ltd., RP-SG Group, Motorola Inc., Alstom Projects India Limited, Oxbow Carlson LLC, Accenture Services Private Limited, Jubilant First Trust Healthcare Limited, ICICI Bank, Citibank N.A., State Bank of India, Standard Chartered Bank etc., on acquisition and divestment of land assets, office and commercial spaces and residential units, setting up joint ventures for the purpose of developing Special Economic Zone, township projects, legal due diligence of immovable properties.
Infrastructure Law: Advised various Government organizations, local bodies and JV companies such as Government of West Bengal, Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Coal India Limited, Haldia Development Authority etc., on various infrastructure projects, both under public private partnership (PPP) model and Govt. funded model, pertaining to construction of elevated road and underpass, sewer rehabilitation, construction of pipeline for transmission of water, development of port, development of amusement park, water treatment plant etc.
General Corporate Advisory: Advised various Indian and multi-national corporates on commercial and corporate laws, FDI and ODI, Corporate restructuring, drafting/vetting of Investment Agreements, Joint Venture Agreements, Share Purchase and Shareholders Agreement etc.
Financing: Advised various banks and financial institutions in relation to project finance transactions, sanction of term loans, sanction of short term bridge loans etc.
