Ali Tabari

Work 0121 246 7000
St Philips Chambers (Chambers of Andrew Smith QC)

Ali undertakes a range of commercial work, focusing predominantly on the often-overlapping areas of insolvency, banking and professional negligence. He is ranked in the 2014 edition of Legal 500 as a ‘very good up-and-coming junior’ in commercial, banking and insolvency work. He has recently been rated as ‘highly commended’ in Legal Week’s ‘Stars of the Bar 2013’, and was the only non-London barrister ranked. He has been instructed alone in the Court of Appeal, and has appeared in a number of recent reported judgments. Ali is also able to accept instructions under the direct public access scheme. Ali is fast developing a busy practice in his chosen areas of interest, as well as normal commercial disputes. He is frequently instructed in high-value banking disputes involving claims of fraud and undue influence. In professional liability work, Ali regularly acts in claims for and against solicitors and surveyors, and is experienced in dealing with less mainstream professional liability. In the insolvency field, Ali undertakes a wide range of insolvency cases, including claims involving transactions at an undervalue, preferences, transactions defrauding creditors, as well as validation orders, contested winding-up orders and ‘bankruptcy tourism’. Ali recently acted in a reported directors’ disqualification claim, and is instructed in several wide-ranging unfair prejudice petitions under s994 Companies Act. A confident, diligent and approachable advocate, Ali offers practical and realistic advice to suit the client’s commercial objectives. He is proactive in his relationships with solicitors and welcomes communication from an early stage of proceedings. He is aware of the importance of ADR, and his measured approach has helped facilitate numerous favourable settlements at recent mediations. He is also a contributor to the Lexis Nexis guidance and practice notes on Part 36.
