Position

Gavin is an established junior who specialises in Chancery proceedings, especially real property (including as regards TOLATA, mortgages, and landlord and tenant), trusts, contentious probate/inheritance disputes, and related matters. Beyond this, he undertakes contract, commercial and tort cases raising various issues. These often include questions which overlap with his core areas of practice, such as regards fiduciary duties and nuisance or negligence in the context of property ownership. He is also instructed in matters concerning professional negligence, including notably allegations against solicitors undertaking real estate and private client work. Recent reported and cited cases have included Beriwala v Woodstone Properties (Birmingham) Ltd [2021] EWHC 609 (Ch), concerning the judicial discretion not to hand down a draft judgment upon the settlement of the parties; and Gavriel v Davis [2019] EWHC 2446 (Ch), dealing with the test for the summary determination of Part 8 proceedings in the context of a claim for remuneration by an executor.

Career

Called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn), July 2010, with scholarship for the Bar year. Worked as a civil servant before pupillage.
