Felipe focuses his practice in competition law and corporate litigation.

Before founding Serranomartinez, Felipe was Chief Advisor at Colombia’s Antitrust Agency (Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio - SIC), as well as Deputy Head of the Agency. At the SIC Felipe was in charge of heading decisions on competition law cases, including cartels, abuses of dominance and mergers. He has also worked at the litigation department of major Colombian law firms in competition law cases and complex litigation matters. He is Adjunct Professor of Competition Law at Javeriana, Andes and Externado Universities in Colombia. He was a Member of the Expert Commission appointed by the President of Colombia in 2015 to reform Colombia’s antitrust leniency regime. He has published papers in different law reviews and is a frequent speaker at national and international events related to his areas of practice. Felipe is admitted to practice in Colombia and the State of New York, USA.

At Serranomartinez Felipe represents and advises major companies in competition law matters, including clients in the oil and gas, retail, airline, ports, high-tech and beverages sectors.

A former chief advisor at SIC, Felipe Serrano heads the competition practice at SERRANOMARTINEZ S.A.S., a boutique which opened its doors in 2017. Clients note that the ‘appropriateness of their advice and their connections to the relevant authorities result in great representation’. The firm advised airline Avianca on its acquisition of a majority holding in Servicios Aeroportuarios Integrados (the largest ground handling company at Bogota’s El Dorado airport) in a transaction that constituted a horizontal and vertical merger. The practice also advised Unilever Andina with its pre-merger review procedure before the competition authority for the acquisition of Quala’s personal care brands in Colombia.

Established in 2017, new entry to the ranking SERRANOMARTINEZ S.A.S. is a boutique specialised in corporate and competition law. Juan Diego Martinez heads the corporate and M&A area with co-founding partner Felipe Serrano. Both are praised by clients who recommend them ‘for a personalized counsel in complex and elaborate corporate matters’. The team advised JA Advisors on its $3.5m acquisition of the outstanding 73% of share capital of Dreamer US, parent company of the Colombian hostel chain Dreamer Hostels.
