Katy is a Law Society of Scotland accredited specialist in employment law and assists businesses and HR professionals overcome their people challenges by helping them find solutions. Katy regularly represents clients in the Employment Tribunal and conducts EAT appeals. She also advises on all aspects of employment law, from dismissal, discrimination and pay, to terms and conditions of employment. She regularly supports clients dealing with whistleblowing or holiday pay claims, or team moves and restrictive covenants, as well as planning senior exit strategies.

She has a particular interest in TUPE and redundancy collective consultation; harmonisation of terms and conditions and collective bargaining processes which stems from her in-house experience.

 She has wide experience advising clients are in a variety of sectors including engineering, utilities, energy, manufacturing, oil and gas, third sector, charities, education, professional services and the public sector.

 Katy is an elected member of MacRoberts’ Management Board. She is also a member of the Council of Directors of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Employment Law Association (UK); and the Employment Law Group (Scotland).

MacRoberts LLP has a strong full-service employment practice, regularly advising public and private sector employers on disciplinary issues, whistleblowing complaints, and equal pay matters. The firm also has a strong cross-border client base, advising a number of UK-wide employers. Highlights for ‘unflappableKaty Wedderburn included representing a large local authority in an on-going employment tribunal concerning multiple claims for unfair dismissal, following the exit of senior education staff for failure to properly manage a complaint of sexual harassment by an adult student. Deborah Miller is advising Transport Scotland on the employment aspects of its tender for the operation and maintenance of various crossings of the Firth of Forth. Managing partner, John Macmillan, is also recommended, and has extensive experience in employment litigation relating to the transport sector.

MacRoberts LLP’s public sector procurement team specialises in high-value contentious and non-contentious matters concerning Scottish local authorities. The group is led by Duncan Osler, who advises ReadyforBuiness, which is an intermediary between the public and third sectors, on local authority procurement legislation, a recycling contact and the integration of a reserved business lot into a major framework. Katy Wedderburn is representing a large local authority at an employment tribunal regarding multiple claims for unfair dismissal brought by senior education staff (including a head teacher) who were fired for a failure to properly manage a complaint of sexual harassment by an adult student. Legal director James Keith is also recommended for his expertise in local government pension schemes.
