Hogan Lovells International LLP's very high quality intellectual property group attracts praise for its knowledge across the full-range of rights, and benefits from particular expertise across life sciences, telecoms, consumer, and automotive sectors. Highlighted as 'excellent with cross-border litigation', the 'very down to earth' Daniel Brook led a team, alongside 'master tactician' Stephen Bennett, which successfully represented Eli Lilly before the Supreme Court. In this high-profile matter, the court reversed two earlier judgements in finding Actavis’s generic version of Alimta in direct infringement of the client's patents in the UK, Italy, France and Spain. In the technology sector, practice head Paul Brown is leading a team instructed by HTC in two multi-patent cases against IPCom and Philips, both spanning multiple jurisdictions. The IPCom proceedings involves consideration of FRAND licence teams before the Patents Court, while the Philips dispute concerns the client's alleged infringement of standard essential patents. Illustrating the firm's competencies in trade mark issues, Sahira Khwaja is acting for Merck Sharp and Dohme in a dispute relating to the use of the name Merck. Another key name to note is Charlie Winkworth who is instructed by new clients Gamesys, Waldo, Deloitte and Asahi Europe in trade mark and brand management matters. Stella Wong was promoted to counsel.
