A partner in our dispute resolution practice based in Hong Kong, Chris Dobby’s practice covers a broad range of cross-border commercial, insolvency, professional negligence and fraud-related disputes, investigations, asset tracing and recovery actions throughout Asia. Chris’ experience in dealing with complex cross-border issues enables him to ‘think around corners’ and to identify and resolve issues in a practical and efficient manner.
Over his 20 years of practice in Hong Kong, Chris has earned a reputation as ‘a very good operator who has a lot of experience on contentious matters’ assisting a broad range of clients to achieve solutions through litigation, negotiations, and alternative dispute resolution.

Led by commercial litigator Chris Dobby, Hogan Lovells‘ Hong Kong insolvency practice is focused on contentious mandates. The team has strong ties with local IPs and is regularly instructed to assist on the liquidation of companies involving allegations of inter-alia, fraudulent activity, breaches of fiduciary duties and misappropriation of funds. Himself a solicitor advocate, clients appreciate Dobby’s ability to appear before the Hong Kong courts for civil proceedings.
Chris Dobby and Mark Lin head up the team at Hogan Lovells. The firm reports an uptick in contentious insolvency mandates and has also been handling cyber fraud and judicial review work. Senior associate Byron Philips is also singled out. Allan Leung moved to Dentons Hong Kong in May 2019.
