Career

Michael Hefter is a trial lawyer with decades of experience leading clients through complex jury and bench trials in federal and state courts. He has extensive experience representing corporations, limited liability companies, investment funds, directors and officers in high profile litigation, primarily in the Southern District of New York, New York State courts, Delaware Chancery court and many other courts around the country. Many of his cases, and his representation, has been reported by the mainstream media and legal press. Michael brings bold solutions to clients facing complicated disputes.

In 2002, Michael was named to the National Law Journal’s “40 Under 40 List”. Since that time, he has been involved in some of the most significant cases involving securities fraud, mail and wire fraud, RICO violations, FIRREA and False Claims Act cases, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud and other business disputes, bankruptcy litigation, structured finance disputes, post-acquisition disputes, corporate governance (including mergers and acquisition litigation), claims involving lender liability issues, shareholder class and derivative actions, claims involving limited liability company and limited partnership issues and structures. Many of his cases are “bet the company” matters that require deep client understanding and experienced litigation acumen. 

Michael has represented clients in numerous industries, including financial services, energy, power and utilities, engineering, insurance, health care, investment and commercial banking, private equity and hedge funds, venture capital, real estate, shipping, accounting, telecommunications, aerospace and defense, chemicals, and computer software.
