Career

Experienced commercial litigator, Rebecca Wales, acts for clients in some of the most complex and high value cross-border disputes before the English courts. She is commercial and pragmatic, and her ability calmly to manage large-scale, high stakes, and multi-faceted disputes, makes her popular with United Kingdom and international clients alike.

In recent years, Rebecca has taken a leading role in some of the largest civil fraud cases before the courts, including BTA Bank v. Ablyazov, Mezhprombank v. Pugachev, and PrivatBank v. Kolomoisky. She has acted on several ground breaking applications, and has significant experience of preemptive and interlocutory relief, including applications to freeze assets, obtain search orders, third-party disclosure, both pre- and post-judgment receiverships, and applications for committal orders for contempt of court.

Rebecca’s experience of international disputes goes far beyond the English court. Many of the disputes she handles involve concurrent litigation in multiple jurisdictions, including offshore venues such as the British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Cyprus, and the Cayman Islands, the courts of several European Union member states, and in Commonwealth of Independent States countries including Russia and Ukraine. She has also dealt with the recognition and enforcement of both English and foreign judgments all over the world.

Rebecca also co-heads the firm’s pro-bono programme for victims of crime in the United Kingdom, including victims of human trafficking and the recent terrorist attacks in London and Manchester. The firm’s programme has been recognized with several awards in recent years, including The Lawyer’s Award for Pro Bono in 2017 and the Lord Mayor’s Dragon Award for Innovation in 2018.
