Dr. Christian Tinnefeld combines expertise in legal counseling of data privacy, cyber security, and information technology (IT)-related matters with excellent skills in contract drafting and negotiating. He is experienced in representing his clients at data protection authorities, other administrative bodies and courts. Christian is passionate about giving speeches and lectures in client workshops and as a Ph.D. (Bucerius Law School, Hamburg).

In data protection and data security law, Christian is an authority for digital projects, international data transfers and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) advice. Christian is representing clients of various industries at the Data Protection Authorities (DPA) on a regular basis and was one of the few legal counsel who supported clients in post Safe Harbor proceedings at the DPA Hamburg. Furthermore, he advises on internal investigations (including data protection requirements in U.S. e-discovery proceedings), the processing of customer and health data, personal management tools (human resources data), closed-circuit television and call recordings, website compliance, online marketing tools, and drafting of internal and outside-facing privacy policies for clients in different industries (with a focus on technology, media, and online retail). He is regularly representing clients in privacy litigation and runs workshops on privacy matters for clients.

In IT-related matters, he advises both international company groups requesting IT services and national and international IT companies offering these services. Christian’s experience covers the full scope of IT contracts, particularly IT projects, software licensing, cloud computing, hosting contracts, SAP services, IT service contracts, and hardware purchase agreements. Due to his long-standing advice and intellectual property litigation for internet providers, online marketplaces, and owners of digital content, he knows the challenges, perspectives, and needs of globally operating company groups. Christian gives lectures at Bucerius Law School (Hamburg) on software license agreements and IT contracts and is a co-author of a GDPR textbook.
