Position

Jonathan is a senior partner in the firm’s Investment Management group, and is widely acknowledged for his experience in both UK and international private funds, including private equity, infrastructure, real estate and hedge funds.

Jonathan advises sponsors and major international investors, including major private equity and other alternative equity houses and sovereign wealth funds, on structuring, spin-off, fundraising, transactions and products. He also counsels managers on all governance and regulation aspects arising out of the creation and operation of funds.

Jonathan has led on many of the market’s most significant funds’ transactions. His experience includes advising:

  • SoftBank Group Corp on its US$100bn SoftBank Vision Fund, which will be the largest private equity-style fund ever established, investing globally in the technology sector
  • Aermont Capital LLP (formerly PW Real Assets LLP) on the establishment of their latest €1.5bn European real estate fund 
  • BlackRock on their European and Asian real estate private funds
  • Numerous manager groups and financial institutions on establishment and spin-offs of private equity, infrastructure and hedge fund managers, including EMSO, Squarepoint, InfraRed and Terra Firma
  • Cinven on their €5 billion Fifth Fund fundraise
  • BC Partners and Terra Firma on a number of large-scale private equity fundraisings
  • a major Asian sovereign wealth fund on a variety of substantial and sponsor investor commitments to US and European private equity and infrastructure funds and on its investment in the GP of a major pan-European private equity house and its funds

At Linklaters LLP, Jonathan de Lance-Holmes continues to advise SoftBank on the Softbank Vision Fund; he and counsel Rahul Manvatkar advised on the creation of a sidecar running alongside it entitled the SoftBank Delta Fund to invest in DiDi, which was constrained due to the terms of the Vision Fund. Matthew Keogh advised cornerstone client Macquarie on creating an infrastructure debt fund. Tom Alabaster is a new hire from Latham & Watkins - his work includes Asia-related fund formation work. The firm also acts for Middle Eastern, Asian and North American institutional investors. Edward Smith has left the firm.

At¬†Linklaters LLP, counsel¬†Rahul Manvatkar¬†advised Barings Real Estate Advisers on the launch of a pan-European core real estate fund, which raised ‚ā¨850m.¬†¬†Matthew Keogh¬†advises well-known names in real estate on fund formations, while¬†Amanda Sanchez-Barry¬†advised ProLogis on forming a ¬£1bn joint venture investing in British logistics assets. Tom Watkins¬†advised Cromwell Europe on the sale of two of its real estate funds to a new entity which was listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange.
