Position

Dan is a corporate partner based in London, who focuses on the financial services sector, with a particular emphasis on insurance. He has wide-ranging experience in public and private M&A, joint ventures, equity capital markets transactions (including many of the market’s most significant IPOs) and corporate restructuring work. Clients have turned to Dan for M&A advice on projects across Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa, giving him extensive cross-border expertise. He has experience of working on deals that have high levels of public, political and market scrutiny.

Dan’s experience includes advising: Old Mutual on its proposed managed separation (ongoing); Athene Holding on its proposed acquisition of Aegon Ireland (ongoing); AXA on disposals of its UK life insurance and savings businesses and its Portuguese business, and its acquisitions of Mansard Insurance (Nigeria) and of HSBC’s general insurance business in Asia and Mexico (with related long-term bancassurance distribution arrangements); RSA on the sale of its Latin American business to Suramericana and its Italian branches to ITAS Mutua; Julius Baer on the acquisition of Merrill Lynch’s international wealth management business; on the IPOs of Brit Insurance, Royal Mail and Direct Line Group and the HSBC rights issue; RTL Group on its IPO in Frankfurt and its investments in and disposals of Channel 5 (UK) and Alpha Media Group (Greece); RBS on the consortium bid for ABN AMRO and its recapitalisations by HM Treasury; Lloyds Banking Group on the sale of Abbey Life to Deutsche Bank; Hershey and Costain on their respective possible bids for Cadbury and Mouchel; on the financial restructurings / sales of HMV, GAME Group and DYWIDAG-Systems International.
