Career

Emma joined the profession in 2001 and is a European and UK Chartered Patent Attorney. Emma was a Partner at two leading international IP firms before joining Lewis Silkin in 2023.

Emma handles the preparation, prosecution, and post grant proceedings for the British, European, and PCT patent systems. She has also co-ordinated the prosecution, maintenance, and exploitation of world-wide patent portfolios including providing strategic IP advice to entrepreneurs, start-ups, and angel investors. Emma also has extensive experience with contentious IP matters and opposition proceedings including up to appeal level. Over time, she has also lectured on various topics of European Patent Law at international conferences.

Before entering the profession, Emma completed a Master of Chemistry degree and her research project specialised in the use of calixarenes in metal-based catalysis. However, Emma works with a wide range of technologies and her areas of expertise are in the field of medical technology including implants, laboratory equipment, analytical devices, prosthetics, formulations, and drug delivery mechanisms. Emma has also gained considerable experience in the automotive field, aircraft design, automated manufacturing systems, and CleanTech.
