Position

Partner: Antony specialises in contentious and transactional intellectual property matters, with a focus on patent, trade mark and design litigation.

He advises clients across a range of technologies and sectors, including electronics, chemicals, engineering, software, medical devices, fast moving consumer goods and media. Antony relishes the challenge of working in a discipline and across sectors that are dynamic and innovative.

As a result of his focus, Antony has extensive experience of conducting litigation in the UK (before the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, High Court (including Patents Court), Court of Appeal and Supreme Court) and managing large cross-jurisdictional disputes, including before courts in the UK, Germany, France, Netherlands and US, as well as before the European Patent Office (EPO) and European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

Lewis Silkin‘s patent practice is headed up by litigation expert Tom Gaunt, who has extensive expertise in the mechanical, electrical, and software patent spaces, and also handles EPO oppositions and infringement matters. Antony Craggs also has a focus on patent litigation, handing large cross-border disputes. Hong Kong-based David Swain is a close collaborator with the UK offering.

The patent prosecution practice at Lewis Silkin has seen an increase in the number filings at the EPO, in addition to opposition and appeal proceedings, across the technology, manufacturing, consumer goods, life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors. The firm’s Hong Kong desk grew its international offering to UK clients filing patent applications and the firm also consolidated its IP offering in Northern Ireland by merging with specialist firm Forde Campbell at the beginning of 2022. Tom Gaunt leads the practice and handles EPO oppositions and infringement opinion work arising out of the mechanical, electrical and software sectors. Other key members of the team include Graham Ablett, Paul Williams and, on the solicitor side, Antony Craggs.
