Sarah is Partner in Lee & Thompson’s Corporate & Commercial Department and heads up the firm’s dedicated Art and Fashion Groups.

A general corporate and commercial practitioner with a specialism in the art, fashion and wider creative industries, Sarah joined Lee & Thompson in October 2017 after the firm acquired her boutique practice, Montgomery Barker.

Sarah founded Montgomery Barker following a career in corporate law at international law firm Herbert Smith, and studying at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art.

With a client base comprising both private individuals and corporates, Sarah has considerable experience in all aspects of corporate and commercial law, including M&A, joint ventures, private equity, and venture capital, across a wide variety of transactions in terms of size and sector.  She acts for various HNWIs and UHNWIs – including artists, collectors and retail entrepreneurs; and a range of corporates from SMEs to PLCs – including art dealerships, auction houses, fashion and beauty businesses, tech companies, advertisers and events businesses.

Sarah has lectured at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, and she is a member of PAIAM (Professional Advisors to the International Art Market) and AWITA (the Association of Women in the Arts).  Sarah is the former Chairman of the Royal Academy Schools’ Patrons Committee, and she is a Governor of St Paul’s School in Barnes, London.

Malcolm Murray leads the team at Lee & Thompson LLP, which specialises in advising clients in the media, technology and creative industries, with clients including BMG Music, Lionsgate and Sony Music. Among other highlights, Murray advised the shareholders of TCB Media Rights on the sale of the company to Toronto-based Kew Media Group, and acted for exhibition and events organiser Angus Montgomery, a longstanding client, on the acquisition of a majority stake in Fit Events; in addition, Oliver Shipton assisted Victoria Beckham Limited with an investment into the company by Neo Investment Partners. The practice has also been strengthened by the arrivals of video games industry expert Julian Ward from Hamlins LLP, Sarah Barker, who focuses on the arts sector, from Montgomery Baker, and advertising and marketing specialist Huw Morris from Reed Smith LLP. Senior associate Lucy Strauss is also noted.
