Career

Calum is a Partner in the Edinburgh office. He qualified in 1993 and was a Partner with Simpson & Marwick before the firm merged with Clyde & Co in 2014. He joined Plexus Law in November 2019.

He has 26 years of experience of dealing with complex and large loss Employer, Public and Product liability claims on behalf of major insurers, Lloyds Syndicates and Corporate Insured’s. He also has extensive experience of dealing with Health and Safety prosecutions on behalf of Corporate Insured’s.

He has been involved in several reported cases, including:

  • HMA v Land Engineering (Scotland) Ltd. 2019 (fatality at work)
  • Watters v The Masters Golf Company 2013 (Product liability)
  • McInally v Arcus FM Ltd. 2014 (Employer liability)
  • Fatal Accident Inquiry – Death of Ainslie Smith 2013 (Product liability)
  • HMA v Merit Projects Ltd. and Sandyford Abattoir 2016 (fatality at work)
  • HMA v SW Global Resourcing Ltd. 2014 (fatality at work)

Calum also works closely with several UK businesses and has experience of dealing with large US based companies in Employer and Product liability claims. He is known to adopt a pragmatic approach to claims to achieve the best results for his clients.
