Philip has extensive experience of insurance litigation, covering all aspects of employers’ liability, public liability and product liability claims, including policy advice.

Philip specialises in occupational health claims such as stress and asbestos-related claims. He has considerable experience of managing sensitive occupational stress claims, particularly those which overlap with employment tribunal proceedings. Philip also has particular experience of employee claims in the aviation and theatre industries.

He also has a thriving sports/leisure liability practice and advises two major UK sports bodies on health and safety and insurance issues. He regularly advises sports clubs (professional and amateur) in relation to catastrophic injury (spinal and brain) claims arising out of on- field and off- field incidents.  He has advised on concussion injuries and the potential long-term impact including insurance implications.

Philip has significant experience of HSE matters, from investigating the initial incident to defending the policyholder in court. Philip’s HSE experience includes defending fatal accidents and prosecutions arising from these in the construction and other industries. As a result, Philip has considerable experience in managing these incidents to include liaising with the client, the relevant prosecuting authorities, the press and others. These claims are often very sensitive and involve specialist advice on disclosure and privilege at the outset. Philip is the Head Regulatory Department at Plexus

Philip advises regularly on product liability issues to include product recall, defect and insurance coverage. He advised insurers in relation to the largest UK consumer class action. Philip lectures on a variety of topics including civil procedure, health and safety, stress and occupational disease. He is a regular contributor to legal education programmes.

Philip qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate in August 2005.


Member of the Law Society’s Civil Justice Committee since September 2009.

The Plexus Law personal injury team is co-led by a multitude of experts, being: property risk specialist Paul De La Porte, occupational disease lead Stephen Phillips; Joanne Pizzala, who specialises in catastrophic loss in motor incidents and is described as being ‘at the very top of the tree in this space’; leader of the dedicated large loss team Mark Dyson; head of travel Michael Gwilliam; and Philip Tracey, whose work covers all aspects of employers’, public and product liability. At present, Tracey is defending on a potentially ultra-high-value, cross-jurisdictional leisure liability group action claim being made against the RFU and Wales Rugby, involving brain damage. In addition, the team has a wealth of experience in dealing with motor incidents, public liability cases and workplace accidents. Claire Attridge is developing a strong reputation in asbestos claims in particular.

Plexus Law‘s health and safety team provides specialist regulatory advice to clients within the construction, sports, care, education, agriculture and marine sectors. The team represents companies and directors in health and safety investigations for a variety of issues, including corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter. A recent work highlight involves the class action being brought against World Rugby – a matter concerning personal injury and health and safety risk management at a professional level. The team is led by HSE expert Philip Tracey, who’s supported by associates Claire Attridge and Stephanie Wilson.
