Matt qualified in 1998 and is the team leader of Plexus Law’s Manchester office public sector team and contract manager for a number of the firm’s public sector contracts. He has been a partner at Plexus Law for eight years and prior to that was a partner in the Insurance team at another legal firm.
Matt is a vastly experienced insurance litigator who has defended claims brought against public sector organisations throughout his career. He now works almost exclusively for public sector clients.
He has substantial experience of claims involving allegations of workplace stress and harassment and through his work for police forces is very experienced in dealing with claims involving allegations of assault, misfeasance in public office and breaches of human rights.
As an experienced team manager and contract partner, Matt is very experienced in supervision of junior staff and in liaising with clients to ensure service delivery.

Plexus Law’s personal injury team focuses on casualty, motor, disease, fraud and large loss claims. The department is instructed by major insurers, the Metropolitan Police and various local authorities. Anthony Baker leads the practice, specialising in work-related stress claims. Tim Short and Gary Petterson oversee the motor and fraud teams, respectively. Philip D’Netto heads the catastrophic injury department and Louise Shaw manages the casualty unit. Andrew Steel and Matt Smith co-head the public sector/police law team.
