Head of Operations and COLP. An expert in catastrophic brain and spine injury cases, and cases where clients have been exposed to asbestos. Chris applies a creative approach to claims and has worked closely with case managers and rehabilitation providers to find innovative ways of delivering care packages that suit particular clients’ needs. Deals with business development on behalf of the department and building links with a diverse range of organisations. Also developing the department’s in-house case management system and delivering newer, more efficient ways of working and therefore delivering the best service possible for clients. Also involved in charitable work for both the Spinal Injuries Association and the Child Brain Injury Trust. Recent notable cases include settlement of a lengthy case where the client was the victim of a hit and run incident at the age of just 11, sustaining a severe head injury, a broken pelvis and shoulder, requiring lengthy stays in hospital. The case recently settled for £3m; a lump sum of £1.52m and a lifetime annual payment of £45k per annum. Chris has also acted in challenging cases on behalf of clients, including an individual injured after a fall from makeshift scaffold who suffered fractures to both femurs, a laceration to the scalp and psychiatric injuries; and a formwork carpenter injured at work, sustaining a fracture to one of the vertebra close to the base of the skull, associated soft tissue injuries and PTSD, rendering him unable to continue in his job. Both settlements ensured a safe and secure future for these clients.

JMW Solicitors LLP's claimant personal injury department, which is jointly led by Richard Powell and Chris Sutton, deals with the full spectrum of personal injury claims, from minor to catastrophic injuries, including industrial diseases cases such as mesothelioma and asbestos-related diseases. Due to recent changes in personal injury law, which has led to a reduction in low-level road traffic accident work, the group has shifted its focus to accidents abroad and military cases. Key names in the team include personal injury catastrophic injury team leader Paul Breen, Gordon Cartwright, Jason Harwood, cycling expert Nadia Kerr and Andrew Lilley. Military claims expert Clare Stevens joined from Hilary Meredith Solicitors in September 2018, while Joanne Brine, who has experience in holiday sickness cases, joined from Slater and Gordon in April 2018.

On 28 November 2019 the Canton of Geneva issued green bonds listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange in an aggregate amount of CHF 660 million.
