The firm

Avrora Legal (formerly known as Karimov and Partners) has been established in 2013 by group of lawyers with substantial experience working for government agencies as well as for private sector. Initially, the main area of practice was construction and engineering, whereas the firm assisted Harbin Electric with the drafting and execution of a $260m EPC contract after winning a government tender by the client. Another major area was protection of international brand owners (such as Ferrero, Panasonic, Wyndham, etc.) IP rights in Uzbekistan.

Currently Avrora Legal handles legal work for clients in a wide range of sectors, including banking and finance, energy, natural resources, media and telecom. The firm is currently advising two leading international investment groups in their entry into Uzbek private banking and insurance market.

The firms practice in litigation has been significantly increased after joing of Mr Alisher Maksudov, the former judge of Tashkent economic court and currently practicing litigator.

Avrora Legal has been advising on “white collar crimes”, however, in 2017 this practice has been strengthened after joining of Dr. Jasur Nematov as a Counsel. The firm has successfully participated in few financial crime related cases and once succeeded in closure of the case due to the absence of the grounds for the case.

The recent experience of Avrora Legal in IP sector is successful representation of Panasonic Group in Uzbek economic court.

Companies such as Weir, China Pipeline Petrolium Bureay are also clients; the firm receives referral work from international law firms such as Hogan Lovells International LLP.

In Banking and Finance sector, we are advising one of the leading international investment group in their entry into Uzbek insurance market. The second biggest project is advising a banker who has established several banks in CIS and Europe in their entry into Uzbek banking sector. Currently , we under negotiations on the possibilities of entry, which can be acquisition of the local private bank or stablishing the new bank from the scratch.

In IP protection sector, our client Panasonic, the owner of various well known trademarks has been in litigation procedure with local manufacturer of electronic equipment. The violator has copied the design of some of the equipment and was offering for sale in Uzbekistan under different brand name. We could successfully argue and prove that the equipment manufactured by local producer is violating exclusive IP rights of Panasonic. The court issued its final decision and found local producer liable for such violation and has instructed to stop the production and offering for sale of the products with identical design of Panasonic products.

We are currently advising Silk Way and will be representation the client in economic courts, with the case involving registration of client’s TM in Uzbekistan by the violator due to the absence of international protection.

In construction sector, we are advising Harbin Electric with legal issues arising during the final stage of the construction project (guarantee period, LC, liabilities and etc.)
