The firm: Schoups was founded in 1950. The firm mainly handled insurance files. During the period between 1990 and 2010, the practice areas Construction Law, Public Procurement Law and Business Law were added. The firm currently counts 55 lawyers and 18 members of staff with offices in Antwerp and Brussels.

Areas of practice: Schoups provides advice, conducts negotiations, prepares contracts and defends the interests of clients in legal proceedings, arbitrations and expert investigations.

Private Construction Law: Assisting contractors and other companies in their relations with all of the participants in private construction projects.

Public Procurement law and PPP Law: Assisting clients throughout the course of public procurement contracts for works, supplies and services and PPP agreements in relation to all other actors. We assist e.g. in preparing applications and tenders, checking the legality of selection and award decisions and conducting proceedings to obtain compensation for damages due to an unlawful award.

Business Law: assisting clients in the sale or acquisition of all types of companies, from discussions and negotiations onwards to the closing of the transaction, including the drafting and negotiating of NDAs, LOIs, SPA and all other transaction-related legal documents. We assist in joint venture and shareholders-related dispute, directors' liability, M&A litigation and corporate governance disputes. We advice companies in setting up a (sales) structure, advise in commercial contracts and reviewing clients' general conditions.

Employment Law: Assisting clients in individual and collective employment law and social security law, accompaniment of social inspections and all of the legal aspects that result from working in a company.

Real Estate & Project Development: Assisting clients in all aspects of property-related transactions, including the purchase, sale, development and exploitation of real estate.

Environmental Law: Assisting and conducting administrative and civil proceedings. We assist e.g. in urban planning, environmental and socio-economical permits, spatial implementation plans and wind turbine developments.

Insurance Law: Claiming support, expert surveys and litigation concerning e.g. in mainly construction.

Arbitration, Mediation & ADR: Acting as counsel or arbitrator in complex domestic and international arbitration proceedings. The team includes a certified mediator in civil and commercial law.
