Career

Prior to joining Rizkana & Partners, Omar undertook two internships in two international law firms in Paris, focusing on international commercial arbitration and international investment arbitration, as well as public international law and litigation. He primarily focuses on dispute resolution, especially international arbitration. This is in addition to experience in aviation and general corporate.

Additionally, Omar assists and acts as attorney in arbitration cases before the ICC and CRCICA, as well as in litigation cases before Egyptian Administrative, Civil, Commercial and Criminal Courts.

Omar has also gained considerable experience in Paris as he assisted attorneys in advising clients in several high-profile disputes before the ICC, ICSID and the International Court of Justice. These disputes include a victory in the jurisdictional phase of an ICC construction arbitration regarding several construction projects in favour of a European company against an African State.

He regularly assists local and international clients, including airlines, aircraft lessors and lenders, with aviation transactions before Egyptian authorities, including the largest aircraft lease transaction in the history of the Egyptian aviation industry. In addition to the foregoing, Omar also frequently assists international organisations and clients with jurisdiction-specific reports on various legal and practical questions related to Egypt, on a pro bono basis. Among the most recent is the World Bank Group’s Doing Business Report for 2021.

Education

Omar holds a Master’s degree in Private International Law and International Business Law from Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) University, where he gained further experience in international arbitration as a competitor in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. He also holds a Maîtrise in International and European Business Law from Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University (with Honours), where he gained experience in International Arbitration as a competitor in the Vis East Moot. In addition to the foregoing he also holds a Licence en Droit (LL.B.) from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and Cairo University (with Honours).
