Position

Partner at ENVIR Advocaten, Iris Kieft has over 12 years of experience advising and representing in court key Dutch and international energy players on regulatory and environmental law matters (EU regulatory, accidents, storage of hazardous materials, chemicals regulation, mining, waste, soil, noise, odour, energy efficiency, water, protection of Natura 2000 areas, protected species, planning and zoning), with a particular focus on climate change, circular economy and energy, including EU emissions trading and energy infrastructure.

Iris’s case highlights include litigating before the Court of Justice of the EU on behalf of several of the largest players in the Dutch industry on the European Commission’s implementation of the EU CO2 emission trading system (EU ETS) and working on multiple energy infrastructure projects, both domestic and cross-border. In addition, Iris has been assisting (organisations of) producers in relation to EU extended producer responsibility and circular economy questions since 2012. As a frontrunner, she helped design and set up the first ever Dutch collective system for collection and recycling of packaging waste and is currently supporting the e-waste sector in setting up a collective system. Iris also advises on regulatory and environmental aspects of M&A and financing transactions and arbitrations in the energy sector.

Iris Kieft is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Academy of European Law (ERA) and a board member of Stibat, a not-for-profit organization that promotes responsible use of batteries and accumulators and realizes end-of-life solutions including collection, sorting and recycling.
