Position

Derek Sietses joined ENVIR in 2019 as partner from Trip Advocaten. Derek specialises in public law (administrative enforcement, subsidies & regulations), environmental law (EHS-matters, protection of Natura 2000 areas & protected species) and governmental liability issues.

As a key contact for several government bodies (provinces, municipalities, water boards) and large national and multinational corporations, Derek advises and litigates in high profile and politically sensitive matters. He also represents multiple wind farm developers in injurious affection claim proceedings. Matters where administrative and civil law interlock, such as administrative law proceedings leading up to civil damages claims or contract negotiations between government bodies and developers are Derek’s strong suit.

Derek Sietses has published widely in leading Dutch legal journals and is the author of a book on governmental liability. His frequent courses for government bodies on a variety of legal matters are highly appreciated. Derek also teaches administrative law at Groningen University.
