Career

Bogdan Gecić is the founder and managing partner at Gecić Law in Belgrade.  His practice focuses on Competition/State Aid, European Law, Trade & Enlargement, and Administrative & Regulatory.  Other areas of expertise include ESG, FDI, Government Affairs, Corporate/M&A, and Constitutional Litigation.

Bogdan has significant experience in EU Law, international trade and enlargement, and its application in antitrust / competition law and state aid.  He is among a select few practitioners from the Adria and Balkans region who have practiced and regularly advised clients before the European Commission, Union institutions, OLAF in Brussels, the Energy Community in Vienna, and other relevant fora.  Bogdan advised and represented the Government of Serbia on several antidumping, safeguards, and other high-profile cases and negotiations with the EU.  He has also represented the Government of Bosnia and Hercegovina in a landmark energy dispute.  He represented Etihad Airways and Air Serbia with DLA Piper London in numerous cases before the European Commission.

Previously, Bogdan was an associate at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, Brussels office, where he worked on numerous significant projects before the European Commission, including the DB-NYSE, attempted tie-up; Aer Lingus-Ryanair’s minority share battle; and, as the intervening party for DHL in the UPS-TNT unsuccessful merger.

Leading global legal directories recognize Bogdan.  He is a member of The Legal 500 “Hall of Fame” in the Competition practice after being named a “Leading Individual” for many years.  He has also been named a “Litigation Star” by Benchmark Litigation and is continuously ranked by Chambers & Partners.  Bogdan was also the first in the market to be ranked as a “Thought Leader” in M&A and Governance by Lexology’s WWL.

Bogdan graduated from the University of Belgrade with a degree in Law (Top 1% of class) and earned his LL.M. from Harvard Law School (with Honors and the Dean’s Scholar Prize in “Leadership in Law Firms”).

Bogdan serves his second term as a Harvard Law School Association of Europe Board Member.  He has been a dedicated mentor in the Harvard Law School 1L and LL.M. Mentorship Program for several years. He previously served as the Vice President of the Harvard Club of Serbia.  Bogdan is one of the founding members of the Business Club UAE & Serbia and serves on its Board.  He is a member of the Young Entrepreneur Council.  Bogdan is a signatory and a Founding Partner of the Women on Boards Adria initiative.

Local, regional, and international media frequently feature and quote Bogdan.  Forbes quoted him in numerous articles on entrepreneurship and client relations in professional services.  Bogdan also writes extensively.  He is a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Florence and the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Law.
