IP Cyprus
What do you see as the main points that differentiate IP Cyprus from your competitors?
At IP CYPRUS, we differentiate ourselves from other similar companies through our commitment to providing personalized service tailored to each client’s unique needs and requirements. Moreover, we have the luxury of specialising in the IP field and thus being constantly exposed to a variety of relevant issues. This allows us to acquire industry specific experience. We are committed to staying up-to-date with the latest developments and trends in the field of intellectual property, and we do our best to keep in touch with the latest technology. We work in a modern way, not with the recipe of the traditional big law firm. This allows us to move fast and provide efficient solutions to our clients. Our global reach, due to our effective network of IP associates, our competitive pricing, and our innovative approach to intellectual property issues make us a reliable partner for businesses and individuals seeking to protect their intellectual property rights.
Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?
As an IP and Technology Law Firm, we are closely monitoring the evolving trends in the technology landscape and how they will impact our clients. Over the next 12 months, we expect to see several trends that will have significant implications for businesses. One trend that we anticipate is the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies, which will transform the way companies operate and unlock new revenue streams. However, with this adoption comes the risk of trademark infringement and counterfeiting, as businesses move online to reach a broader audience. We expect to see a growing demand for legal services related to AI and ML, particularly in the areas of intellectual property protection, licensing, and regulatory compliance, as well as online trademark violation issues. Finally, as more businesses move online, Amazon and other online marketplaces have become a critical platform for many of them. However, these market places have complex policies and procedures and they can be challenging to navigate. We expect to see a growing demand for legal services related to such validations, including help with resolving disputes and navigating these policies.
What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit clients?
As an IP firm, we understand that technology is critical to delivering efficient and effective services to our clients. To this end, we try to invest in the latest technology and tools to enhance our service delivery and ensure that our clients receive the best possible solutions to their IP challenges.
In addition to technology, we also believe in building personal relationships with our international associates. We understand that our clients’ IP assets often extend beyond national borders, and we work closely with our network of international associates to provide our clients with a global perspective on IP law. We have built strong relationships with our international associates and attend applicable conferences whenever possible. Moreover, we are members of various relevant IP associations such as INTA, AIPPI, the Silicon Valley IP Law Association and networks, allowing us to provide our clients with seamless cross-border services and ensure that their IP assets are protected in all relevant jurisdictions. We also prioritize education on the latest IP trends and how to use the latest tools for the online protection of our clients’ rights. We regularly organize workshops and also attend webinars to keep our clients informed about the latest IP trends and how to protect their IP assets in the digital world.
Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?
With the use of technology, we can now communicate with our clients more efficiently and deliver real-time updates. This has enabled us to provide our clients with more transparent and streamlined services, resulting in a better client experience. We have also adopted the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to automate routine tasks, freeing up more time for our attorneys to focus on providing valuable advice and services to our clients. Finally, technology has also enabled us to expand our services beyond national borders and offer seamless cross-border IP services, particularly to our clients with large IP portfolios. With the help of technology, we can collaborate and share information with our international associates and partners more efficiently, keeping track of deadlines and time frames.
Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?
As an IP firm, we are dedicated to helping our clients add value to their business through effective IP strategies. One example of how we have done this is by assisting a client in launching a new software product while ensuring international protection of their brand as well as their copyright where possible. Our client had invested a significant amount of time and resources in developing a new product that had the potential to be a game-changer in their industry. However, they were concerned about potential infringement of their IP rights and simultaneously they want to ensure that their chain of ownership documents were in place, given that some parts of the software development had been outsourced to third parties. We worked closely with our client to put in place the correct ownership agreements including the relevant waivers of IP rights in our client’s favour. For protection of the brand in several jurisdictions, we worked with our foreign associates to conduct a thorough IP search, identifying any existing IP rights that may have posed a risk to their new product. Based on our findings, we developed a tailored IP strategy that included filing new trademark applications in the correct classes, with specific descriptions and using the most cost effective route to protect their IP assets, both nationally and internationally, in order to mitigate any potential risks. We also provided ongoing advice and support throughout the product launch, ensuring that their IP rights were protected and any potential infringement issues were addressed quickly and efficiently either by negotiating a mutually acceptable agreement for all parties or by responding to any claims accordingly. As a result of our work, our client was able to successfully launch their new product, secure their IP rights, and generate significant value for their business on a global scale while keeping unnecessary litigation expenses at a minimum.
Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms – where do you see the firm in three years’ time?
The majority of clients are definitely looking for stability. As for strategic direction, we are constantly looking for ways to adapt and improve our services to meet the evolving needs of our clients and the ever-changing landscape of the IP industry. In three years’ time, we envision IP CYPRUS as a leading IP law firm, providing exceptional service to clients both locally and internationally.
We are confident that with our expertise and commitment to innovation, we will continue to be a trusted partner for our clients in the years to come. Furthermore, as part of our strategic direction, we are also looking to expand our services in Asia, specifically in India and China. We recognize the immense potential of these markets and are actively working to establish strong partnerships and connections to better serve our clients in these regions. By expanding our services in these regions, we will be able to offer our clients a more robust and diverse range of options, tailored to their specific needs and goals. We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and are dedicated to positioning ourselves as a leading IP law firm, both locally and globally. Our goal is to provide service to our clients, and we will continue to work tirelessly to achieve this vision.
