Daniela Ježová, Managing Partner

Daniela Ježová talks about being a strong partner for transactions, cases in Slovakia and even internationally. She explains the digitalization and challenges in legal future.

What do you see as the main points that differentiate your law office from your competitors?

First advantage is our flexibility to adapt very fast on client´s needs. We as a small firm can make decisions very fast comparing to bigger law offices where the process is more formalized.

Second important advantage is having reliable colleagues in most of the countries of the world through the legal networks to be able to help client´s needs while still being able to maintain the small size of the office. We are actively representing Slovakia in more legal networks and knowing our colleagues personally. We have ready a strong network of our colleagues to serve the client. Therefore, we are comfortable to deal transactions any size and with almost any jurisdiction involved. Our ability to deliver consistent results has provided us the opportunity to service multidimensional clients.

Other advantage is a personal relationship with the client. As a small law office our client meets mostly the partner and deals its issues directly with the partner. Comparing to bigger law office where clients are being traveling from one person to another. During the time of the transaction or case we usually develop a very familiar relationship with our clients, and they know they can completely trust us with any decisions.

Fourth advantage is our transparency. That comes with one hand together with the previous advantage. All our steps are discussed very closely with the client before they are taken. The client has an important role in the process.

Fifth advantage is the technology and the knowledge working together. Daniela is active researcher in the field of European Union law seeking for active innovative improvements. Daniela is currently involved in the topic of Digital Single Market at Comenius University in Bratislava and received a Jean Monet grant for European Union for that topic, she is very passionate about the digitalization in practical and theoretical way.

Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?

The establishing Digital Single Market within EU will be based on my opinion the most growing area. As already mentioned, I personally deal with this topic intensively. I wrote several scientific articles (ex.: Digital Single Market – Are we there yet?) and advised several clients in the area. The topic of Digital Single Market includes also the GDPR topic which is the base stone of the Digital Single Market – fee and safe flow of the data within EU. Digital market includes other topics- e-shops, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, shared economy. Shared economy (Peer to peer) is the most growing economy sector within EU. We have advices several clients – digital platforms in the field of shared economy. I am also experienced in this area and field of law to provide comprehensive advice.

What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit clients?

The main change was the focus on international cases and developing systems under which we can easily handle cases where two, three or even more jurisdictions are involved.

Personal knowledge of our international colleagues is another important change towards client´s needs as far we can easily and fast provide solutions practically with any jurisdiction in the world.

The client benefits also from the experience and the knowledge of out team. We focus on increasing our knowledge with systematic legal conference attendance and writing articles about current challenges at law.

Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?

We are very technology oriented. Technology helps us to serve the clients over the world. We have clients in Australia, South America, USA, in almost every country within EU. We needed to develop systems to be able to serve their needs, to share documents with them, to stay in touch with them and to be their strategic and reliable partner.

Current crises have even speed up the technology solutions.

Artificial intelligence has also its starts in Slovakia.

Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?

Helping clients add value to their businesses is a major part of what we do.

a) Currently systems and technologies are adding value to clients. Developing systems with close connection of the lawyer was a great added value for our clients. Involving lawyer in the early stage can be very beneficial for the future.

b) We can think very strategically and together with our experience using in favor of the client the solutions come faster and are more lasting.

c) In arbitration cases we can think outside the box, develop a strong and effective the strategy which we follow during the whole case.

Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms – where do you see the firm in three years’ time?

Our law office has already stable place on the market in Slovakia. Contrary to other law offices we would like to keep our law firm as small or mid-size due to the advantages already mentioned.

We invest a lot into technology, and we hope to be able to use artificial intelligence on the daily basis to serve the clients very soon.

High quality of our service is a must and we want to maintain that. We hope to have even stronger network of our international colleagues for cooperation in projects.

Having more and more satisfied clients not even as clients but also develop personal relationship with them.
