Position

Jon is a partner and heads up the Banking & Finance team in the Midlands. In addition to acting for lenders and borrowers across a range of corporate banking and finance products, Jon specialises in invoice finance, asset based lending, inventory finance and distribution finance. Jon’s work covers international and syndicated transactions as well as more straightforward domestic bilateral facilities. Jon has a focus on working with funders on portfolio issues and reviews, from distressed lends/restructuring to growing businesses, and he works closely with professionals within the wider finance industry, such as corporate finance, insolvency practitioners and intermediaries. Jon has worked with a number of funders on new products and product development, including the drafting of standard documentation as well as bespoke and novel facility and security arrangements. Clients include HSBC, Lloyds, Santander, Shawbrook Bank, ABN AMRO and Macquarie Bank and the team acts on some of the more significant transactions undertaken by asset-based lenders in the region and nationally.

Birmingham-based partner Jon Bew has 'vast industry knowledge' and regularly teams up with 'impressive' senior associate Natalie Barnes; Barnes and Bew recently advised core client Shawbrook Bank on a £45m refinance and syndication with Wells Fargo of the Arlington group of companies as part of the acquisition by Arlington of Magal Engineering. The 'excellent' Andrew Watson is also recommended and in his role as national head of banking and finance regularly handles ABL, invoice finance, inventory finance, supplier finance and distribution finance matters. The team is rounded out by Stephen George, who has significant experience advising on restructuring and insolvency issues in the ABL market.

Jon Bew and senior associate Natalie Barnes advised Whitworths on a £19m refinancing provided by Leumi ABL following the borrower’s merger with Anatolia, and Shawbrook Bank (a cornerstone client) as part of a syndicated £45m asset-based loan to the Arlington Group regarding its purchase of Magal Engineering. HSBC Invoice Finance is another client of note.
