Anita trained with Irwin Mitchell and qualified as a solicitor in March 2008. She was promoted to the position of Associate in November 2011 and became a partner in May 2015. She is based in our London office.

Anita has a wealth of experience in complex clinical negligence cases, both on behalf of adults and children.

Her paediatric work focuses on children who have suffered neurological injuries caused by negligence at or around the time of birth, for example due to delays in delivery (causing cerebral palsy), or as a result of inadequate medical treatment in the neonatal period caused by neonatal hypoglycaemia.

Anita also specialises in representing children who have suffered serious neurological and/or physical injuries caused by meningococcal septicaemia.

Anita represents adults who have sustained a spinal cord injury, as well as a range of other clinical negligence cases, such as fatal cases.

Anita is a Senior Litigator of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.  In 2017, she won the First 100 Years “Inspirational Women in Law” award.

Anita’s clients have praised her “attention to detail…letting us know what is expected months ahead” and saying our “strategies are crystal clear”. “They are client driven and have a focus[ed] attitude on what is [in] your best long-term interests”

Anita Jewitt Irwin Mitchell

Irwin Mitchell fields ‘a first-class national practice with extensive experience‘, especially in claims involving brain injuries sustained at birth and neurological injuries in adults. The team’s support and rehabilitation coordinators are a key element of their practice, focusing on securing interim payments and facilitating rehab services for clients – an area in which Richard Kayser is particularly involved. Auriana Griffiths leads the team ‘from the front by her example of hard endeavour‘, predominantly handling birth injury claims including neonatal hypoglycaemia and cerebral palsy arising from birth asphyxia, an area in which Anita Jewitt also has notable experience. Claims involving spinal injury are another area of strength for the team, with Alison Eddy standing out particularly for her work in the field. Ian Christian has a sub-specialism in sporting injuries arising from substandard treatment provided by medical staff. Leena Savjani is noted for her ‘ability to navigate the complexity of the legal and medical issues with ease‘, and has specialist experience in inquest work and coronial law. Anne Kavanagh leads on the firm’s Maternity Matters training program nationally.
