Court of Protection

Louisa is a Senior Associate Solicitor at Irwin Mitchell based in Bristol. She has specialised exclusively in Court of Protection work since she qualified in 2011 and predominantly manages complex high value Deputyship and Personal Injury Trust cases.

Louisa has extensive experience of supporting vulnerable people, acting for a wide range of clients including children and adults who have suffered brain damage as a result of medical negligence or brain injury following a catastrophic accident and who have received compensation payments that need to be managed in order to meet their lifetime needs.  Louisa is experienced in all aspects of Court of Protection work including complex Statutory Will applications to the Court, managing high value adaptation projects for clients and overseeing investments along with looking after clients who have complicated finance and health and welfare issues, preparation of expert statements on professional Deputy and Trustee costs and advising non-professionals on their roles and responsibilities as a Deputy or Trustee.  Louisa works closely with litigation solicitors whilst claims are ongoing, ensuring that any interim awards are managed appropriately and works collaboratively with colleagues, investment managers, professionals, clients and families to promote client independence and manage funds in their best interests. Louisa also manages the firm’s national Personal Injury Trust service line – this large team provides specialist advice around the country on PI Trusts for minors and adults with capacity who have received compensation from a personal injury or medical award.  The team recently won an award at the PI Awards 2020 for PI Trust Provider of the Year.

Louisa trained at Pannone LLP and moved to Irwin Mitchell’s Bristol office following a relocation on qualification.
