Career

Ben graduated with a modern history degree before turning to the law. He became a partner in 2002 and specialises in contentious insurance work and commercial disputes. 

Ben lectures regularly on various matters, including alternative dispute resolution. He also co-ordinates some of the firm’s corporate social responsibility activities and is a governor of a local school.

Commercial Disputes

Ben has acted in a variety of commercial disputes mostly connected to the acquisition or operation of businesses. Many have involved issues between shareholders or sale and purchase issues, often arising from contested warranties. Notable sale and purchase disputes have arisen from the acquisition of a shipyard and the sale of a Lloyd’s agency.  In addition, Ben recently acted in a variety of cases where fraud has been alleged, including payments of secret profit and he has considerable experience of cases involving alleged dishonesty.

The majority of Ben’s work has been in Court, but he has regularly used ADR as a means of settling disputes. He has been involved in several large trials.

Insurance & Reinsurance

Ben acts for insurers, insureds and brokers in a variety of insurance disputes. His expertise is professional indemnity and political risk work.

For professional liability Ben acts in relation to lawyers, and insurance brokers (as well as directors and officers). His Political risk work focusses on trade credit claims and wording issues.

Ben lectures on both political risk, professional indemnity and reinsurance.

The ‚Äėhighly efficient‚Äô team at Ince & Co¬†regularly defends claims brought against professionals and their insurers, with a focus on acting on behalf of solicitors and insurance brokers. The team also acts for ship surveyors and managers in maritime negligence disputes. Ben Ogden¬†represented individuals insured with Chubb in $16m-worth of claims brought against two former directors relating to the 2011 liquidation of the South of England P&I Club. Ed Broking, Griffin Insurance Association, International Transport Intermediaries Club and LAMP Insurance are also clients. Ogden and Simon Cooper¬†head the team and senior associate¬†Christopher Crane¬†is also a key contact. Chris Jefferis moved to an in-house role.
