Career

Marco is predominantly a litigator with a focus on shipping and international trade and commodities disputes. 

Marco acts for a wide variety of clients on a full range of disputes including the sale and purchase of ships, the carriage of goods by sea, charterparties and bills of lading, ship management, trade of petroleum products and related transactions, piracy and collisions. Marco practices in both the English national courts and in international arbitral proceedings. Three of Marco's recent successes in the Commercial Court and the Court of Appeal are of significance in the international trade and shipping arena.

Marco is an Italian national. He studied law in Italy and the UK and gained a LL.M. in Maritime Law from the National University of Singapore.

Shipping

Dry shipping disputes, particularly in relation to the interpretation of charterparty clauses, pool agreements, ship management contracts and contracts for the sale and purchase of ships.

Wet shipping disputes, particularly in relation to collisions and piracy.

International Trade and Commodities

International trade and commodities disputes, particularly in relation to the sale of petroleum products and related hedging transactions.

Recent Cases

  • Valle di Cordoba, [2014] EWHC 129 (Comm), reported case on “In-transit loss” clauses in voyage charterparties, strict liability of shipowners and piracy.
  • The Seacrown, [2013] EWHC 3720 (Comm), reported case on sale of petroleum products, damages for late delivery of the cargo and assessment of the market value.
  • Currently involved in an on-going case before a foreign Court concerning the delivery of oil cargo without the production of the Bills of Lading, owners’ rights to refuse discharge and losses incurred in consequence of the subsequent delay.
  • Currently involved on a number of speed and performance and demurrage matters.
  • Involved in a case in the Commercial Court on an important issue regarding the sale and purchase of second hand ships.
  • Ongoing day-to-day assistance to a large shipowner in relation to a variety of transactions including pool agreements, ship management agreements and ship building contracts.
