Katrien Vorlat is a partner in our Corporate and M&A practice.

Career

Katrien is an experienced transactional lawyer. She focuses on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity and (corporate) venture capital. She is frequently retained to advise on the setting up, reorganisation or liquidation of business ventures in Belgium. Katrien has negotiated and structured a wide variety of M&A transactions, joint ventures, investment schemes and divestitures in the life sciences, IT/AI, logistics and insurance sectors in particular. She regularly represents US, European and other international clients investing in Belgium through acquisitions or joint ventures and greenfield operations. Furthermore, she assists Belgian clients with their domestic acquisitions as well their foreign investments.

Katrien is frequently retained to provide strategic-legal advice to non-profit organisations, companies, boards, special committees and shareholders on a wide range of corporate governance and disclosure matters.

She has been a participant on numerous panels addressing M&A, private equity or governance issues in domestic as well as cross-border contexts and has authored several articles on corporate law issues.

Katrien Vorlat is an independent member of the proxy voting committee of Degroof Petercam Asset Management S.A. She is also co-chair of the international PE/VC subcommittee of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association.

Education

Katrien has a law degree from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL) in 1990. She obtained an LL.M. degree from Yale Law School (1992) and also has a law degree from the University of Strasbourg Faculty of Comparative Law (1993).
